In this racing or walking event, participants use a map and compass to find electronic check points.
About this Event
Families, youth groups, runners and individuals, join us for an orienteering event at Barber Park, at the Conway Community Market. Go to the pavilion near the splash pad to register. Receive an orienteering map of the park, and bring or rent a compass and electronic finger stick from us. Using the map and compass, find controls (checkpoints) on our white and/or yellow course (courses are 1.5 to 2.5 km long respectively).
Use the finger stick to punch electronic readers and record your time at the controls. See your time/results compared to other participants. Treat the event as a race or simply walk the course, enjoying the challenge of finding the control points. Please start your course(s) between 11 am and 2 pm to end no later than 3 pm.
In order to help us plan demand for compasses and finger sticks, please register below, particularly groups. Waiver required at the event. Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Groups or individuals with participants younger than 18 should contact Brent Ward at firstname.lastname@example.org for a liability waiver that can be signed by parents and emailed back to us in advance of the event.
After the event, enjoy browsing the tents of local businesses, artisans, vendors and food trucks at the Conway Community Market, a free event, also at the park.
Florida Orienteering Members: $7/person, Non-Members $9/person. $6 /person for organized youth groups when the group leader handles all paperwork and payments. Compass rental $1, Finger Stick rental $3 at the event. Free Parking. Amateurs and experienced orienteers are welcome.
A Florida Orienteering event with the cooperation of The Community Improvement Initiative and Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society. For questions contact Brent Ward email@example.com.
